US tidal power company to invest in Scotland

US tidal power company ResHydro has announced plans to establish operations in Scotland, representing the first American renewable energy inward investment in the country.

ResHydro is currently working on a hydrokinetic energy generation device that requires further R&D to take it closer to commercialisation.

The company will be supported by a $152,000 award from Scottish Enterprise and will work in partnership with the University of Strathclyde.

Alex Salmond, Scotland’s First Minister, welcomed the investment saying ResHydro’s decision is testament to Scotland’s leadership position in developing marine energy technology.
