ContourGlobal, a US-based independent power producer, has bought two wind farms with a combined installed capacity of 114 MW in Peru, according to press reports.

The wind farms, Cupisnique and Talara, were acquired from Energia Eolica through ContourGlobal’s subsidiary ContourGlobal Latam.

The development of both facilities is expected to cost in the region of $250m, with the electricity sold under 20-year power purchase agreements as part of Peru’s renewable energy resource (RER) programme.

Denmark’s Vestas has been contracted on a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis.

According to ContourGlobal, once completed they will be the first large-scale wind farms in Peru and the boiggest wind farms in operation in South America outside of Brazil.
