In a recent auction to build 150 MW of wind capacity in Uruguay 17 companies made bids totalling over 1000 MW, reports Energias Renovables.
Due to this overwhelming demand, the energy authorities decided to award 192 MW instead of the original 150 MW.
The auction sought to award 20-year contracts for the purchase of electricity derived from wind sources.
Early analysis of the prices show the price range was below previous offers. This time it was between $63/MWh to $67/MWh compared to $85-87 MWh during the previous auction.
