The firm’s D8 direct drive turbines will be supplied for the Dieppe-Le Tréport and Yeu-Noirmoutier windfarms, which will each have a total capacity of 496 MW. In total, the firm will deliver 124 turbines.
The turbines will be supplied through Siemens Gamesa subsidiary Adwen France, and will replace the planned supply of Adwen’s AD8 model following Siemens Gamesa’s decision to focus its sales efforts on a single 8 MW platform.
Siemens-Gamesa said it will stop manufacturing the AD8 turbine, while further development of the technology will be reviewed. However, it added that Adwen will still carry out existing plans to build separate blade and nacelle factories in Le Havre and will collaborate on developing a local supply chain in France.
The technical switch for the two windfarms has been approved by the French government, Siemens Gamesa said, while a switch for a third 496 MW project, the Ailes Marines windfarm in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc, is awaiting approval. à‚ à‚
