Repowering of UK wind farm poised to begin

New turbine components to repower a UK wind farm have started to be delivered.

The original 23 turbines at Ovenden Moor wind farm in Yorkshire, England, started generating electricity in 1993 until they were decommissioned last year.Ovenden Moor windfarm

Now new blades and other equipment for nine new turbines are being delivered to the project, which is owned by Yorkshire Windpower, a joint venture between E.ON and Energy Power Resources.

Nick Taylor, senior stakeholder executive at E.ON, said: “Turbine technology has come a long way in recent years and once complete, the new nine turbines will be able to produce twice as much power as the original 23 turbines.
