The Honduran Association of Renewable Energy Producers (AHPER) expects that the recent introduction of the amendments to the Ley de Promocion a la Generacion de Energia Electrica con Recursos Renovables (Promotion of Electricity Generation with Renewable Resources Law) will encourage the installation of 300 MW of renewables over the next two years.

Juan Orlando Hernandez, the National Party candidate for next month’s presidential election, said that Honduras has the ideal conditions for producing electricity from solar resources, according to a report by Energias Renovables.

The new law establishes incentives for the production of electricity from non-conventional sources, and in particular favours photovoltaic projects.

Among the incentives are tax benefits for companies undertaking renewable energy projects.
