Panama holds first wind energy auction

Panama’s Electricity Transmission Company has received eight offers in what is claimed to be the country’s first wind power auction, a local newspaper reports.

The objective of the is to create a pipeline of projects that can produce 121 MW of electricity, coming onstream between 2012 and 2018.

Union Eolica Panamena made four offers, Helium Panama two and Fersa Energias Renovables and Innovent Central America one each.

According to some observers, the country can either allocate individual projects that meet specific demand or they award a single project to a group of companies. This decision is likely to depend on which companies have the most attractive prices.
