The Nicaraguan authorities are pushing for the establishment of renewable energy projects, in an effort to generate 80 per cent of its energy needs from renewables within the next five years.

In an interview with local news website La Nueva Radio Ya, Salvador Mansell, president of the National Enterprise of Electricity Transmission (Enatrel), said the government wants Nicaragua to be leader in clean, green energy.

“This is why, the authorities want to promote wind power generation, which in the next 12 months will reach [an installed capacity of] 180 MW ,” he was quoted as saying.
