Latin America installs over 1 GW of wind in 2011

Around 1.2 GW in wind energy was installed in Latin America last year, according to the latest figures from the Global Wind Energy Council.

The figure represents 3 per cent of the total 41 GW installed globally in 2011.

A total of 1206 MW of wind capacity was added in Latin America, with most of the projects in either Mexico or Brazil, accounting for 80 per cent. The Latin America region’s current total installed wind capacity stands at 3300 MW.

Last year, Brazil saw a total installed capacity of 582.6 MW, which represents 48.3 per cent of the whole region; while Mexico produced 354 MW, or 29.3 per cent of the total, the report added.
