The Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) sees the growth of the wind industry in Latin America “as a way of improving energy security and creating jobs and wealth” in the region.

The bank has approved a loan of approximately $80m to help finance the construction of a 396 MW wind farm in Mexico, comprising 132 wind turbines (3 MW each), the Latin American Wind Energy Association (LAWEA) said.

The IADB has also approved further financing for the roll-out of 546 MW of wind power capacity across Latin America.
