First blade built for 714 MW UK windfarm

The first blade has been manufactured for the 714 MW offshore windfarm East Anglia One in the UK.

The windfarm will be located off the English coast at Suffolk and will comprise 102 turbines, each of 7 MW, built by Siemens Gamesa.

The first fibre-glass blade ” which is as long as the wingspan of an Airbus A380 aircraft ” has been manufactured by an 850-strong team at Siemens Gamesa’s new factory in Hull, which will also make all subsequent 101 blades.

Charlie Jordan, East Anglia ONE Project Director, said “the manufacture of the first blade from Hull was “a fantastic milestone in the development of our windfarm, signalling the start of turbine installation”.

Following production at the à‚£160m Green Port factory in Hull, the blades will be shipped down the English east coast to Great Yarmouth, where the turbine components will be pre-assembled.
