Energia Pura recently requested an environmental licence to build a 20 MW biomass plant in Chile’s Biobio region, starting June 2014.

The project is estimated to require an investment of $42m.

The plant will be fuelled by biomass supplied by the surrounding forestry industry, Electricidad reports.

Energia Pura expects 90 per cent of the plant’s output will be transmitted to Chile’s central grid – the Central Interconnected System (SIC).
