Belgian utility EDF Luminus is to build two wind farms with a combined capacity of 28.8 MW.

Both projects will be equipped with Siemens’ 3.2 MW turbines.

The 19.2 MW Katoen Natie wind farm will be located in the port of Antwerp while the 9.6 MW Sibelco wind farm will be in Dessel and Mol.

The Siemens SWT-3.2-113 wind turbine has a rotor diameter of 113 metres. The nacelles of the Katoen Natie project will be mounted on towers with a hub height of 127.5 metres while for the Sibelco projects it is 99.5 metres. Installation of the turbines for both projects will start in October.

Thomas Richterich, chief executive of Onshore at Siemens Wind Power, said the contract with EDF Luminus was “an important achievement for us… and strengthens our position in the Belgian market”.

EDF Luminus is the second largest player in the Belgian energy market and is 63 per cent owned by France’s EDF.
