Court rejects complaint against Cuervo hydro project

Chile’s Coyhaique court has rejected a petition from several social and environmental groups against the construction of the 640 MW Cuervo hydropower plant.

Seenews reports that the project is being developed in the region of Aysen by Energia Austral, a joint venture of Swiss company Glencore and Australia’s Origin Energy.

The Coyhaique’s court, however, has ordered Energia Austral to update the seismic data prior to starting construction.

Cuervo is the first of three hydroelectric plants, with a combined capacity of 1065 MW, which Energia Austral plans to develop in Aisen.
