Italy’s Enel Green Power has started the construction of the Apiacas hydropower plant in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso.

This hydropower facility will have an installed capacity of 102 MW, according to Ecoticias, and will require an investment of $287m.

Enel’s web page specifies that Apiacas will produce about 490 GWh per year, what will help Brazil address its rapidly growing energy demand.

The complex consists of three plants – Salto Apiacas, Cabeza de Boi and Fazenda – and comprising of seven 14.5 MW hydro turbines.
