Central America’s ‘largest wind farm’ on-line by end of 2013

The Penonome wind farm, which according to the company in charge of the project is the first such facility to be built in Panama and the largest in Central America, is set to reach full operation by the end of next year, according to press reports.

The project will comprise 110 turbines of 2 MW each, and covering an area of 19,000 hectares, Union Eolica Panamena, said.

The total investment in the project is around $440m and once fully operational is expected to provide between 6-7 per cent of Panama’s total energy production.
