Brazil’s Tractebel Energia is planning to participate in this year’s round of government auctions, focusing on both wind and biomass projects.

Manoel Zaroni, Tractebel Energia’s president, confirmed this with local energy media specialist Canal Energia.

In January, Tractebel Energia acquired seven wind power projects, with combined capacity of 206 MW for $11.1m.

According to Zaroni, if these wind projects are unsuccessful at the forthcoming auctions, Tractebel will consider their possible inclusion in the free market.

However, the inclusion of wind power in the free market is more problematic because the regulated market auctions give investors guaranteed revenues, with the long-term contracts.

This is not the case in the free market.
