Solaria Energia y Medio Ambiente, a Spanish solar panel manufacturer, has signed a deal to develop a 25 MW photovoltaic (PV) plant in Ecuador with a local provider.

The agreement includes a pilot PV plant of 1 MW near the city of Quito, which is planned to be operational in the second half of this year, and to be expanded to 5 MW in the first part of 2013.

The local partner has the land and funds for the plant construction, while Solaria will design the project and supply the PV panels.

The agreement will also include another 5 MW project to be developed in Quito by the end of 2012.
