Wind to power flavour and fragrance factory

An on-site wind turbine has been installed at a flavour and fragrance manufacturing facility (pictured) in the Netherlands.

International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) installed the 2.4 MW turbine at its factory in the southern city of Tilburg, and it is expected to provide up to 30% of the site’s power needs.

The company said the installation represents the flavour and fragrance industry’s first-ever on-site wind turbine. It also claims to have the industry’s largest on-site solar array, a 4 MW installation at a facility in the US state of New Jersey, installed in 2014. The solar array supplies around 40% of that site’s power.

IFF group president, fragrances and executive sustainability sponsor Nicolas Mirzayantz said: ‘Following our launch of the largest solar array in the industry, this turbine is another demonstration of how we always strive for what is best for our company and the planet. The turbine will serve as a pillar of inspiration and pride for IFF employees in Tilburg – and around the world.’
