Tracking solar installation for California manufacturer

Built by SPG Solar Inc., also of California, the system uses an active single-axis sun-tracking mechanism to collect the most sunlight possible, by orienting the solar panels towards the sun as it moves across the sky throughout the day. The 1 MW field covers 6.5 acres adjacent to the ALZA Vacaville facility. All of the energy generated will be used by the Vacaville plant, which operates 24 hours per day.

The energy supply centre in Dresden, Germany, constructed by Stuttgart company M+W Zander FE GmbH as general contractor has received an award as ‘cogeneration plant of the year 2007’ by the Federal Association of Combined Heat and Power.

The energy plant supplies the AMD Fab 36 with electricity together with hot and chilled water via a gas-fired trigeneration power station. M+W Zander had overall responsibility for planning and constructing the project built in the year 2005.
