Tanzania-based solar company Off-Grid Electric is to expand its offering from residential to commercial on-site solar power systems.
The firm’s new Kazi na Zola suite of solar-powered appliances, which it calls ‘a business in a box’, is aimed at the needs of smaller companies in rural locations, it said.
Business owners will pay for the solar systems on an as-you-go basis through a mobile payment app.
Trials have been completed in Tanzania and a rollout across the country is expected by the end of this year.
Xavier Helgesen, Off-Grid Electric’s CEO, said: ‘We built this offering as a tool to enable entrepreneurs to start and grow the businesses they’ve always wanted to, but haven’t had the power to be able to.’
