Swedish thin-film solar cell manufacturer Midsummer has launched a complete solution for building-integrated solar photovoltaic (BIPV) systems, in partnership with metal roofing firm Clix Steel Profile AB.
The BIPV system is certified for slopes as low as 5°, Midsummer said, and uses the firm’s method for manufacturing flexible thin film CIGS solar cells on individual stainless steel substrates.
Each panel in the system is mounted on the roof plates using elastomeric butyl adhesive tape. The standing seam roof is then installed by linking the roof plates together in one step. Next, the PV modules are connected using standard connectors.
The connectors and junction boxes are hidden under the ridge capping where they are well-protected from snow and ice, Midsummer noted, adding that there are no visible connectors, cables or junction boxes when the installation is complete.
Sven Lindström, Midsummer CEO, said: “We can now offer certified BIPV products with great aesthetics. The roof plates are produced with integrated lightweight flexible panels using any type of coated steel. The lightweight, flexible panel is integrated already at the factory, thereby reducing installation time and cost.”
