Portugal’s Martifer Solar is to build a 20 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Hermosillo, Sonora in Mexico, for Consortium Sonora80M Integrator.
The company, which has been operating here since 2011, will also be responsible for the plant’s O&M.
The project, which will be the largest to be installed in the country, is a sign of the Martifer’s commitment to developing solar power in Latin America, according to a company press release.
The plant will use solar trackers built by Martifer Solar to “optimise power production by 30 per cent” says the company.
According to Alberto Rabanal, regional manager and a board member of Martifer Solar, “the agreement is a testament to the company’s commitment to PV in Latin America, and the Mexican market in particular.”
Sonora80M Integrator Consortium has also signed power purchase contracts with several municipalities in the state of Sonora, “ensuring the sale of the energy produced by the plant for the next 25 years”, confirms Rabanal.
