Latin America’s ‘biggest’ solar PV plant is inaugurated

SunEdison ( NYSE:SUNE) of the US has inaugurated Amanecer Solar CAP, described as Latin America’s biggest solar photovoltaic (PV) plant. Michelle Bachelet, Chile’s recently-elected president, attended the inauguration.

SunEdison, the developer of the solar project, has a power purchase agreement with CAP Group, the largest steel producer in Chile.

Amanecer Solar CAP has a total installed capacity of 100 MW, which is equivalent to 10 per cent of the installed capacity target for non-conventional renewable energy in 2014 set by the government.

Amanecer Solar CAP is located in the Atacama Desert, which has one of the world’s highest levels of solar radiation.
