The global solar photovoltaic market was valued at $39.7bn in 2016 according to new research.

And China’s JinkoSolar Holding overtook fellow Chinese company Trina Solar in terms of solar photovoltaic PV module shipments last year, shipping up to 6.7 GW of PV modules compared to Trina’s 6.55 GW, according to consulting firm GlobalData.

In its report, GlobalData says that JinkoSolar’s efforts to expand across a large and geographically-diversified customer base have allowed it to leverage its products, brand recognition and sales network.

In the top solar PV rankings, Canadian Solar took third place, JA Solar Holdings came fourth, Hanwha Q CELLS was fifth, GCL System Integration Technology sixth and First Solar seventh.
