Commercial on-site power is showcased in the UK this week, as energy tariff comparison firm Love Energy Savings announces the shortlist for its 2016 Love Energy Savings Awards.
The awards showcase efforts by businesses and institutions to improve their energy efficiency across a range of technologies.
Among the 16 shortlisted firms is àƒâ€°lan Hair Design (pictured) in Inverurie, Scotland, which has installed rooftop solar panels and air-source heat pumps as well as other energy-saving measures. The company has won 16 previous sustainability awards and says it has reduced its carbon emissions by 90%.
Also on the list is Ian Hazel Funerals in England, which has installed a system of 78 solar panels that meet 70% of its electricity needs, as well as mechanical ventilation for heat recovery; and R&R Ice Cream, also in England, which uses waste heat from the ice cream production process for building heating and says it has reduced its carbon footprint by over 2% in the past year.
Sponsors of the contest include utilities Scottish Power, British Gas, EDF Energy and npower. The winning company or institution will receive a à‚£500 ($650) prize.à‚
