Honduras aims to make solar power its primary energy source, with local newspaper El Heraldo reporting that state-owned power company ENEE will give priority to solar projects from now on.
The nation’s goal for 2015 is 250 MW from solar devices. Several Honduran regions such as Valle and Choluteca have enough solar resources to produce up to 400 MW in total.
Among the projects to come is the 24 MW Pavana plant, to be developed by Energía Básica.
In 2014 ENEE signed 60 contracts that will total 1251 MW from renewable energy sources, mainly solar, hydropower and wind stations.
