The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) is considering getting the energy supply for the waterway’s installations from solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind farms.

A report by the ACP, quoted in Energías Renovables magazine, said that wind potential studies have been carried out in the Mendoza and La Chorrera regions.

The Panama Canal currently receives its energy supply from hydropower stations (which produce 60 MW) and thermal plants (206 MW). However, a drought that hit the country last year reduced the hydro plants’ production and caused the ACP to seek other power sources.
