Peru has the potential to become a centre of energy production in South America according to Eleodoro Mayorga (pictured), the country’s former Minister of Energy and Mines.

However, the former official also noted the need to plan for the central government to convene the public and private sectors. He said this will allow the country to better develop its renewable energy potential.

“In the next 10 years we need to double investment in energy infrastructure,” Mayorga said at a conference.

Separately, Pedro Gamio, former Minister of Energy, said: “Peru should be part of the energy hub with Colombia to export energy to the entire region.”
