American firm Goldwind USA, a subsidiary of China’s Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co, has said it will receive financing from the World Bank to construct the second phase of a wind power plant in Panama.

The project is called Penonome and it is expected to generate 215 MW once completed. An investment of $300m will be required. The project will be located in the province of Cocle and is expected to be operational by 2015.

A total of 86 wind turbines are planned, at 2.5 MW each. This makes it Goldwind USA’s largest international wind turbine order.
