A 3 MW solar power station is to be developed at Rachna Industrial Park, in Lahore, Pakistan, in order to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the factories located at the site.

Expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2015, the plant will be developed by unnamed German investors, according to comments attributed to Mohsin Syed, chief executive officer of National Industrial Parks management and Development Company. The National Industrial Parks company (NIP) was established as a special initiative of the Ministry of Production of Pakistan to develop world-class industrial parks all over the country.

According to Syed, some 16-20 factories will be operational with another 15-20 under construction at the park by the end of the second quarter of 2015.
