Wind OEM Nordex is set to modernize three Italian windfarms after winning an order for performance-enhancing technology.
The German firm’s service business is to install its Xtended Power package on 63 turbines at the Fossa del Lupo, Amaroni and Vicari windfarms, which are operated by Italian renewable independent power producer ERG.
The upgrades will combine optimized pitch control and a more intelligent turbine control system, Nordex said, which could increase the turbines’ yield by up to 2 per cent. The technology is included as part of Nordex’s standard offering with its newer turbines.
The 97.5 MW Fossa del Lupo and 22.5 MW Amaroni windfarms, located in the Catanzaro region, have been online for five years, while the 37.5 MW Vicari windfarm in Sicily has been online for nine years. All of the windfarms feature Nordex’s N90/2500 turbines.
Andrea Gaspari, Italy country manager at ERG Power Generation, said: “It’s important for ERG to have a good co-operation with the manufacturer and in Italy we can say that the objective has been achieved through an effective solution for turbines production optimization.”
