New Argentina law may reactivate renewable power projectsࢀ¨

The enactment of Argentina’s new renewable energy law could see old projects come back to life, according to Roberto Sarquis of state-owned energy company Enarsa.

Five years ago local authorities awarded power purchase contracts to nearly 1000 MW of renewable energy projects, the bulk of which have not attracted financing.

Many of the projects may resume if they are able to receive financing, for which the law will be very helpful, according to the businessman.

Among other measures, the government will channel half of the savings from fuel imports resulting fromà‚ renewable generation to a new fund supporting the renewables.
