The US Environmental Protection Agency has unveiled a list of the top 50 organisations that are choosing to use electricity from green sources.
Intel ” which uses renewables to cover 100 per cent of its electricity load ” came first, followed by Microsoft and Kohl’s department stores.
The rest of the top 10 were Whole Foods Market, Wal-Mart, the US Department of Energy, Staples, Starbucks, Lockheed Martin and Apple.
For the first time, the EPA also has released a list of partners that have committed to purchasing green power for a period of five years or more. Of the 47 partners on the list, 15 are higher education institutions. The EPA states that these organizations “send a strong signal to renewable energy developers, stating that they are committed to green power for the long-term”. Among the higher education institutions are the state universities of Oklahoma, Ohio and Iowa.
