Iberdrola has signed an agreement to build a $116m wind power project at Kinangop in Kenya, east Africa.

The 61 MW wind farm will comprise of 38 GE 1.6 MW turbines and will be sited at the wind farm 40 KM north-west of Nairobi.

The contract with developer Aeolus Kenya will see Iberdrola (BMAD: IBE) subsidiary Iberdrola Ingenieria handle engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.

Kinangop will be owned by the Macquarie and Old Mutual-sponsored African Infrastructure Investment Fund 2 and the Norwegian Investment fund for developing countries Norfund.

Elsewhere, Iberdrola is building the 13.6MW Ngong 2 wind farm 30 kilometres from Nairobi for the Kenya Electricity Generating Company as part of a consortium with Gamesa.
