Brazilian company Tractebel Energia has received financing up to $50m to upgrade its hydropower and thermal power plants. The loan has been granted by The Brazilian National Social and Economic Development Bank (BNDES).
Hydropower stations Salto Santiago and Passo Fundo are among the plants to be revamped.
Salto Santiago station has an installed capacity of 1420 MW, while Passo Fundo’s capacity reaches 226 MW. Tractebel Energia aims to keep the plants at these capacities for the next 35 years.
