Guatemala expects foreign investment in its power sector to reach approximately $1.8bn between 2011 and 2013, according to a local press report.

Such investments include $700m by Jaguar Energy Guatemala, a subsidiary of American AEI, and $275m from Italian utility Enel for the construction of a hydroelectric plant in Palo Viejo, Quiche.

There are an additional 15 hydropower plants planned, which will generate from 5 MW to 30 MW each, according to official estimates.
