Brazil and Bolivia are working towards an agreement that would allow operator Energia Sustentavel to lift the dam of the Jirau hydroelectricity power plant from 82.5 to 90 metres.
The project would add 420 MW to the utility’s capacity, reports said. But the public wants to get a firm commitment for a 3000 MW hydroelectric project that involves investments of R$15bn ($4.8bn).
Ende, which is managed by the government, would get a 10 per cent cut in the new power capacity added to Jirau.
The Jirau plant has a capacity of 3750 MW but delivers an average of 2184 MW.
