Brazil’s 192 MW Garibaldi hydro plant to enter operation

Brazil‘s Triunfo Participacoes e Investimentos has received regulatory approval to begin operating the primary generation unit at the 192 MW Garibaldi hydropower plant in the southern state of Santa Catarina, reports BNAmericas.

The start-up of operations comes 16 months ahead of the deadline set by Aneel, the power regulator, of January 2015, confirms Triunfo.

In the region of 70 per cent of Garibaldi’s capacity has already been sold at $58.64/MWh for the 30-year concession contract.

Triunfo subsidiary Rio Canoas Energia operates Garibaldi, which is on the Canoas River bordering the cities of Abdon Batista and Cerro Negro.
