A hydro energy company has revealed plans to develop up to 15 small scale projects in Scotland.

Green Highland Renewables plans to invest around GBP1.5m ($2.3m) in each of the schemes, which will all be built on land owned by Scotland’s Forestry Commission.

Chairman Iain Wotherspoon claimed that the projects would make Green Highland Renewables the “largest developer of small-scale hydro schemes in Scotland”.

Company founder Alastair Riddell added: “Green Highland now sits at a very exciting juncture in its development. Our order book is expanding, enquiries are increasing and the opportunities we are creating are growing in number. It is time for the business to move up a gear.”
