Hitachi on-site solar

The newly built UK headquarters of finance firm Hitachi (TYO: 6501) Capital Commercial Vehicle Solutions is to be powered by on-site renewables, the company has announced.

With four months to completion of the firm’s new £7 million (US$11.6 million) office in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, Hitachi Capital has released details of the building’s construction. In order to reduce its carbon footprint and minimise its impact on the local power structure, the company said, the building’s vehicle preparation centre will be topped by solar panels, providing 22% of the site’s energy requirement.

In addition, air source heat pump technology will provide heating in winter and cooling during the summer. The site will also feature electric vehicle charging stations supplied by Nissan and British Gas, high quality insulation which will reduce the buildings’ heat consumption, and energy efficient lighting.

The building was designed by Bath-based environment design management practice Nash Partnership and is being built by Midas Construction.
