Guam Power Authority (GPA) has announced the two firms it recommends to become its first providers of renewable energy – Quantum Guam Power for solar power and Pacific Green Resource for wind power – according to the Pacific Daily News.

But contracts have yet to be awarded and will not be until the evaluation period comes to a close in January 2012, said the GPA.

GPA is required to diversify its sources of power production with “the development of renewable energy production and to decrease total reliance on oil for electricity production”. It is also required that advancement and movement towards the new technology not cost more than what GPA currently pays for its use of oil.
