Germany’s biggest builder wins Austrian hydropower tunnel project

Hochtief has won a $179m contract to construct the “Triebwasserweg Maria Stein” tunnel in Prutz, Austria. Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Inn hydroelectric power plant

The pressure tunnel is to be an integral part of the Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Inn hydroelectric power plant.

The 22.6-km tunnel is scheduled to be completed in mid-2018 and the project will eventually generate renewable electricity for about 100,000 homes.

The power plant project is owned by top Austrian utility Verbund AG (VER), Tiroler Wasserkraft AG and Engadiner Kraftwerke AG.
