The Las Pailas geothermal plant in the province of Guanacaste, northern Costa Rica, has been inaugurated by the president Laura Chinchilla, Energias Renovables reports.
Also present at the ceremony were representatives of the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE)..
The plant has a capacity of 35 MW and is expected to provide electricity to 92 households.
The project is part of a generation expansion plan established by the National Planning Centre of the ICE, the press report said.
The project represents an investment of $221.8m.
During its construction more than 1200 direct and 500 indirect jobs were created. Now operation the geothermal plan will generate 100 direct jobs and 50 indirect ones.
