Emgesa has confirmed that the El Quimbo hydroelectric plant, which has been shut down since December by order of Colombia’s Constitutional Court, has restarted operations.

The company has revealed that generation will start with a load of 84 MWh, which will increase gradually to meet environmental regulations.

The Colombian authorities and the company have said El Quimbo’s output will contribute 5 per cent of the nation’s energy demand.

Water levels at El Quimbo currently stand at 63 per cent.
