DP CleanTech in $34m deal for Polish straw-fired biomass plant

Renewable energy firm DP CleanTech has signed a $34m deal to build a 30 MW straw-fired biomass plant in Poland.

The plant will be built for Polish Energy Partners in Winsko, southwest Poland and commissioning of the boiler island and the first steam to turbine is expected in 2014.

The plant will have a special boiler design to minimise NOx emissions and a feeding system that can handle both square and round bales.à‚

DP CleanTech chief operating officer Krzysztof Dragon said: ࢀœWe have built a solid relationship with PEP, and hope to work together to develop further projects which build on a shared vision of the increasingly important role that biomass can play in Polandࢀ™s energy mix.ࢀ

Poland is looking to biomass as a means of moving away from its dependence on coal and to meet EU renewable energy targets.
