Costa Rican authorities have reportedly proposed setting a price band for new firms producing large-scale solar energy up to 20 MW.

However, the new price band would not apply to the generation of small-scale solar installations up to 1 MW.

Juan Manuel Quesada of the country’s energy authority said: “This is a firm step towards promoting the integration of renewable energy within the national energy system.”

The proposed regulation aims to “allow firms to gather enough funds to cover their operation costs and it will help recover their investment”, he added.
