Biomass power

A €450m biomass power plant is to be built in Mayo, Ireland and contribute to the country’s efforts to get 40 per cent of its power by renewables by the end of the decade.

Veolia has been awarded a 15-year contract from Mayo Renewable Power to operate the 42.5 MW wood-fuelled biomass power plant, which will produce enough electricity to supply 68,000 homes.

The company will also be supplying the total biomass fuel requirement for the facility, which is expected to commence operations in mid-2017.
