The plant is to be built in two phases of 500 MW each and the two sides will exchange expertise and assistance in the local production field as well as to transfer technology and knowledge for energy production through silicon solar cells.

The MOU, which is part of Egypt’s plans to diversify energy sources, will also see the establishment of photovoltaic (PV) cells manufacturing capacity in the country.

Egypt International Cooperation Minister Dr Sahar Nasr said: “The project comes in line with the President’s directives to diversify energy sources and aims to make a quantum leap in the local manufacturing of solar power in Egypt.”
