Building Integrated Organic Photovoltaic solar films have been installed at the premises of Reckli China in PuDong, in Shanghai, China. With the modules directly integrated to concrete façade elements provided by Reckli, a strategic partner of manufacturers Heliatek, the installation is claimed as the world’s first BIOPV concrete façade (pictured).
The building was chosen for installing the first such façade on an east-, west- and south-facing prospect to demonstrate the system efficiency under various mounting conditions and the power generated by each façade is being individually monitored for comparison purposes. The installed capacity of around 20 square metres amounts to 0.62 kWp, which is used internally.
Commented Dr. Thomas Bickl, Heliatek’s vice-president for sales and marketing, ‘This pioneering installation will set the precedent for similar BIOPV installations around the world to achieve the requirements for carbon neutral buildings that are self-sufficient in generating their own power requirements.’
A spin-off from theTechnical University of Dresden and the University of Ulm, Heliatek is marketing its HeliaFilm product with a variety of building materials including glass, concrete and PVC membranes.
